If you’ve looked with secret longing to the world of art quilts but don’t know where to start, this is the class for you. Lyric will gently guide you through concrete exercises designed to help you create ideas for original abstract quilts.

Doodles will be scribbled, eyes and minds will be opened, and fun will be had. You will learn the basics of fused collage as you assemble your quilt top. Even students who have never created their own designs before will end the day with at least one small and uniquely original art quilt top.

The Elements of Art

Kick-start your creativity and learn about the basic elements of good design through a series of short, hands-on exercises. Learn why some colors fizz while others explode, why some quilts calm and some excite. A few simple tools from the artists kit will help you take your work, whether traditional or contemporary, to the next level.  

Lyric translates the language of ART into delightful and simple to understand concepts and presents them in such an entertaining and practical way that everyone goes home thinking, "I can do that!" She is on a crusade to convince everyone that they can use the principles of art in whatever kinds of quilts they love to create.

Guided Critique and Analysis

Both traditional and art quilters will gain valuable skills through this guided critique session.

Come enjoy a day of constructive and creative learning as we explore ways to analyze artwork. We will discover techniques that allow us to objectively evaluate art and learn which questions will help solve design issues.

Lyric will help you critique your own work in an emotionally safe, positive, informative, and supportive way.

Playful Portraiture

Ever wish you could turn a favorite photo into a quilt—but have no idea where to begin? In this fun, fear-free workshop, you’ll learn how to create quilted portraits using a simple, step-by-step method that makes faces approachable and fun.

We’ll start with giggle-worthy selfie postcards to warm up, then move on to a practice photo provided by Lyric. You’ll learn how to trace key shapes, create a pattern, and bring it to life with fusible appliqué—no drawing skills required. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s play, discovery, and building skills.  

By the end of class, you’ll be ready and excited to go home and turn your favorite photo into a quilted portrait all your own.

Photos + Foil = FUN!

Come spend some delightful time playing with foil and photo transfer as you create little winged friends, ready to turn into lovely postcards or mini art quilts.

Learn two easy techniques for transferring photocopies onto cloth and please your inner magpie with easy to apply, shiny, permanent, metallic foil. Learning a little about Thermofax screen printing is an added bonus that I’m sure you will fall in love with.

Paint Your Shoes

Turn a pair of leather or cloth shoes into wearable works of art.

 Give new life to your favorite old pair of shoes by turning them into amazing piece of walkable art. Use leather and textile paint, sharpies, and paint pens to create your own one-of-a-kind fancy footwear that will make your toes want to dance!  3 hour virtual class, no kit or fee required

Bead It Like You Mean It

Want to add sparkle to your quilts or wearable art—but not sure how to begin without turning it into a tangled mess? This workshop is your stress-free intro to beading that’s beautiful and practical.

 You’ll start by creating a playful fabric flower collage on batting, then dive into a variety of beading techniques—all designed to enhance your design, not distract from it. Learn how to stitch beads in clean lines, tame tricky bugles, and even secure a cabochon with a stunning beaded bezel.  

Best of all? You’ll discover how to do it all without knots or messy backs—making it perfect for finishing work after quilting. No experience needed, just a love for texture, shimmer, and trying something new.

Layered Screen Printing

Come create whimsical and creative whole-cloth compositions while learning screen printing techniques such as discharge, ghost printing, masking, foiling, and layering.

Design principles such as unity, repetition, and focal point will be discussed as we play around with thermofax screen printing.

As an added bonus, Lyric will teach you how to mount your finished work on a gallery wrapped canvas, a fabulous technique for a professional presentation of your art.
