Supplies from your Stash

  • 8" solid fabric for flower
  • 8" fabric for background
  • 8" square light weight fusible web (*see note below!)
  • 8" square thin batting
  • Sharp scissors
  •  bead container  - altoids tin, or very shallow small dish or piece of craft felt or suede like fabric to roll beads out onto table
  • Optional - Lamp and/or magnifying table lamp
  • Iron (only for advanced prep)

Kit (highly recommended) or ...

  • 1 16 ct. tube size #11 Foxglove Cottage Straw Needles
  • 1 bobbin of C-lon or Nymo beading thread
  • 1 beautiful handmade cabochon
  • 1 bag of beautiful Miyuki beads: ~40 g, size 6, 11, 15 seeds, bugles

Miyuki beads are renowned for their consistency and quality.

The needles in this kit are sturdy enough for sewing through fabric and long and thin enough to go through the tiniest beads.

Beading thread will hold the weight of a cabochon and won't break as your fabric moves with your beads.

Advanced Preparation

  1. These steps are optional! You don't have to make ANY project at all during this workshop. You can choose to slap a piece of plain fabric onto some thin batting and simply learn and practice the techniques.
  2. If you want to create a small flower project, the pattern and preparation instructions will be immediately open to you. You can cut and fuse the flower to the background fabric. Regular Wonder-Under or Misty-Fuse is recommended. NOT Heat-N-Bond
  3. OR * Applique the flower to the background fabric ANY method you choose - machine, hand, whatever you love!
  4. Optional - add batting (NOT backing fabric) and machine quilt outside the flower
  5. 4" solid white or light fabric quilted sample for practice - size doesn't matter - just make a quick quilt sandwich and sew a bunch of lines so you can practice beading from the top of a finished quilt

Here's everything you get for $45

That's less than a skein of hand-dyed yarn.
Live session + all-new on-demand videos included.

  • 3 hours of live instruction with Lyric — ask questions in real time, get instant feedback, learn alongside a community of fellow makers.
  • Long-term access to the rebuilt video course — Lyric is filming all-new videos and every student in this live cohort gets them automatically. Watch anything again, anytime.
  • Four foundational techniques you can start using on your own work immediately — not just in class, but on every quilt and textile project going forward.
  •  Pattern and prep instructions sent to you in advance, so you can arrive ready to dive straight into making.
  • No pressure to be perfect. You can even skip the project entirely and spend the whole session just practicing technique on a simple fabric sandwich. Learning is the point.

Meet Lyric Montgomery Kinard

Award-winning textile artist, author, and was awarded International Association of Professional Quilters Teacher of the Year.

Lyric has spent two decades transforming timid makers into confident creatives with warmth, humor, and a deep belief that the skill you're looking for is already inside you.

She's going to help you find it.

Consider what you get: three hours with an award-winning teacher who will answer your specific questions in real time — plus ongoing access to brand-new videos you can revisit whenever you need a refresher. Most workshops of this caliber run $75–150. At $45, this is genuinely one of the best investments you can make in your creative practice this year.

Nope! That's exactly who this workshop is designed for. Lyric built her entire teaching career around guiding timid makers into confident ones. You won't be thrown in the deep end. You'll be walked in gently, step by step.

The on-demand video rebuild means your investment is protected regardless. You won't miss out on the content - though being there live is where the magic happens.

You can use fabric you already have for practice. A curated bead kit is highly recommended and available in my shop. It includes Miyuki beads, the right needles, quality thread, and a handmade cabochon - everything chosen so you're not fighting your materials while you're learning.
