Solvent Photocopy Transfer and Ink-Jet Printing

Students will learn to transfer photocopies onto fabric and will also review bubble-jet-set and various ready-to-print products. We will make a lovely quilt-let or book cover. In a six hour class students will learn a variety of finishing and embellishing techniques.

Kit includes all quiltlet supplies plus several fun and funky vintage photocopies to delight you. A 4” x 6” sketchbook is also available for $5.00 if you’d like to make a book cover.

Quilt-let or Book Cover Supplies:

• Basic sewing supplies (scissors, needles, thread, bobbins, etc.)
• Small book or photo album that you wish to cover if you want to make a book cover.
• Batting and/or muslin... Enough to wrap the book/album like a present
• Fabric for inside cover... Enough to wrap the book/album like a present
• Fabric scraps, lace scraps, embroidery threads, embellishments
• Sewing/ quilting thread to coordinate with your fabrics
• Embellishments such as beads, fun threads, lace, etc.

Supplies:

• 10-20 freshly made, high contrast, black and white photocopies
  laser and ink-jet prints will not work, no larger than 4x6
• Rubber gloves
• 8x10 piece of glass with edges taped for safety
• Metal spoon (never to be used for food again)
• Masking tape
• Paper scissors
• White, tightly woven fabric. 10- 20 notebook page sized pieces
• Small jar with lid
• Cotton balls

Photocopies:

1. Seek clear features and high contrast. Mostly black images tend to bleed.
2. Copy one or two images per page, leaving plenty of space around them
3. Fresh copies work best.
4. Resize the image.
5. Use pen (not pencil) to fill in spaces or lines.
6. Use white-out to cover unwanted spaces or lines.
7. Cut out or add backgrounds.
8. All doctoring can be done on your computer.
9. Make a photocopy of your doctored image.
