mounted on matboard
  • With artwork in hand, choose a frame and mat color. Remember that they become part of the artwork so choose accordingly.
  • Cut a piece of matboard the size of the interior of your frame.
  • On the back of the matboard, center your artwork face down.
  • Gently lift the corner and place a mark just under it.
  • Mark every few inches just underneath the artwork.
  • Use a hammer and a small nail (with a stack of newspaper underneath) to punch a hole on your marks.
  • Place your quilt on the front of the matboard.
  • Using a needle and thread that matches your quilt, knot your thread onto the back of the quilt then thread the needle through the first hole.
  • Move to the next hole, go through then bend the edge of your quilt back and catch a bit of the back then go back through the same hole.
  • I always try to end on a corner since it’’s easiest to turn back for your last stitch..
  • I also knot the thread every few stitches as I move along just to be safe.
  • If you are using glass, place spacers between the glass and the matboard to give your quilt some space.
  • I usually don’t use glass.
  • Place your mounted quilt in your frame, replace the backing board and secure well.
  • There you have it! Framed, mounted, showing all your lovely edges.
