- With artwork in hand choose a mat and frame.
- You will also need some watercolor or other stiff, acid-free paper.

- Trace the inside and the outside of the mat onto the watercolor paper.
- Cut the paper to the same size as your mat.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

- Pin your artwork onto the watercolor paper, making sure to cover the traced line of the inside of the mat.
- Place the mat on top, making sure everythign is positioned correctly.
- Mark your work, just at the corners.

- Using a heavy needle and a long stitch length, stitch your work onto the paper.
- Make sure to stitch well outside your marked corners.
- Stretch the artwork taught as you go.

|
|
|
 |
- Your stitching doesn’t have to be straight. It just has to be outside your marked lines so that it doesn’t show inside the mat.

|
- Assemble your frame.
- If you are using glass place spacers either between the glass and the mat or between the mat and the artwork.
