matted and framed
  • With artwork in hand choose a mat and frame.
  • You will also need some watercolor or other stiff, acid-free paper.
  • Trace the inside and the outside of the  mat onto the watercolor paper.
  • Cut the paper to the same size as your mat.
  • Pin your artwork onto the watercolor paper, making sure to cover the traced line of the inside of the mat.
  • Place the mat on top, making sure everythign is positioned correctly.
  • Mark your work, just at the corners.
  • Using a heavy needle and a long stitch length, stitch your work onto the paper.
  • Make sure to stitch well outside your marked corners.
  • Stretch the artwork taught as you go.
  • Your stitching doesn’t have to be straight. It just has to be outside your marked lines so that it doesn’t show inside the mat.
  • Assemble your frame.
  • If you are using glass place spacers either between the glass and the mat or between the mat and the artwork.
