Saturday Principles Group $160.00

Delightfully informal and intensely informative! Students will meet together four times during each session to delve deeply into what it takes to become an artist. Learn to see, understand, and interpret the visual world as artists do. It is a journey full of joy and wonder! Come prepared to learn, work, laugh, and grow.

During the Spring Basic Elements Session, basic drawing stechniques will be taught, observational skills will be developed, and hands-on design exercises will be explored. We will explore the basic elements of art, learning the basics of the visual alphabet, namely texture, shape, line, color and vlaue.

In the Fall Principles of Design Session we will build on previous lessons to move into composition and critique, exploring the ways that artist combine the elements to create fine art.

A Private Blog will host student work and allow for interaction between monthly work sessions. Lyric will answer questions and check progress as you post your homework.

Class size will be limited to six students in order for Lyric time to give each student individual attention. Sign up early to save your spot!

What if I can’t make one class?
You will have the option of attending the coordinating lesson: for isntance, if you cannot attend class #3 on Saturday, you can attend class #3 on Wednesday.

There is also the option to “attend” class via skype or facetime although this is limited to one student and it can be difficult to view everything that is going on during the working session.

“As a quilt artist-wannabe, there are certain established artists whose  work I adore. Lyric is one of these, and when the opportunity came about to participate in her Elements of Art as an in-class experience, I  jumped at the chance. I have no formal art training and have been quilting for about 10 years. It was important to me to begin with the  most basic aspects of learning the artist's "alphabet." Lyric explores each element thoroughly and examines how the elements are used not only by quilt artists but also in other works of art.

Lyric is a wonderful, patient teacher and I see my own work changing for the better as I continue this exploration further. It will shape my artistic journey for years to come.“

“Lyric has the ability to give clarity to obscure concepts. Her instruction is interesting,  complete, and well-organized. After making art for a few years, I decided to learn more about the "elements" of art in order to analyze my own artistic process and to more fully appreciate the art of others. It was comfortable to meet in her home studio just a few quick minutes from my home. We analyzed the elements found in a variety of art pieces and styles, and she explained what made the artistry work. Then we  created small samples to solidify the concepts learned. Sharing the  process and results with a few new friends provided a warm learning environment. Whether meeting new people or gathering a small group of friends, Lyric's instruction is meaningful and enjoyable time  well-spent.”                      -Mary Ritter
